Chapter 35 Taking You Home
Chapter 35 Taking You Home
After Xiao Shenxi calmed down, she stopped Xiao Jiangci from making the foolish move of jumping down.
She limped around looking for something useful. This was a frozen meat processing plant, and around the corner were many discarded styrofoam boxes and boards that had been bundled together and piled up.
Xiao Shenxi immediately recognized that this must have been bundled up and placed here by a scrap collector.
She quickly untied the ropes and dismantled all the foam boards.
We need to hurry, someone will probably come to collect the foam boards soon. These foam boards are so new, the person collecting them is probably still inside the factory moving them.
Xiao Shenxi limped back and forth several times, and the area under the ventilation vent was filled with foam.
"Get down."
The moment she opened her mouth, Xiao Jiangci jumped down without hesitation.
He fell face-first, shattering many foam boards in the process. Tiny pieces of foam landed on the little boy's head, like scattering flowers.
Xiao Jiangci jumped down and immediately ran to Xiao Shenxi. He looked sad, with tears still in the corners of his eyes.
"Brother, does it hurt a lot?"
He crouched down to look at Xiao Shenxi's limping leg, but she quickly avoided him.
"Tie up the remaining foam boards and put them back."
Xiao Shenxi didn't answer him. Instead, she coldly directed him. After speaking, she found a thick, sturdy tree and leaned her thin back against it, sitting in an awkward posture.
Xiao Jiangci moved quickly, and in no time he picked up the bundled foam board and placed it at the corner.
After he finished, he quickly turned back to look for his brother. He saw his brother sitting quietly by the big tree with his eyes closed and legs bent. His fear of being abandoned returned to reality.
Xiao Jiangci tugged at his fingers and smiled ingratiatingly at Xiao Shenxi: "Brother, where are we going now?"
Xiao Shenxi took a deep breath and, after a while, gradually got used to the fine, bone-chilling pain.
For a moment, I didn't feel much pain anymore.
She stood up with a limp, her leg still a little weak, and Xiao Jiangci immediately used her small body to support her brother.
"Once we get to town, go to the police station, then you can go home."
Xiao Shenxi uttered incoherent sentences, and at the end, she frowned and added,
"Give me the money."
Xiao Jiangci carefully supported her, obeying whatever she said. His attention was focused on his brother's legs, and when he heard her speak, he subconsciously nodded his little head and hummed in agreement.
The setting sun casts its golden rays upon the two children, who are supporting each other.
They traversed the seemingly endless deep mountains. Xiao Shenxi had grown accustomed to this irregular lifestyle, sometimes eating her fill and sometimes going hungry. She would pick up any random fruit she could find along the way and eat it, for being poisoned was far more comfortable than slowly waiting to starve to death.
But Xiao Jiangci's complexion grew worse and worse as they walked. This pampered young master had never suffered so much. At first, he watched as Xiao Shenxi picked up wild fruits, wiped them, and ate them. But later, when he himself was starving, he also started picking wild fruits.
Xiao Jiang's legs were trembling.
Finally, he gave in.
He looked left and right, then quickly climbed the tree like Xiao Shenxi, grabbing a green, date-like thing. He grabbed a lot of them, stuffing them into his pocket as he went, until half a branch of the tree was stripped bare.
He slid down and immediately grabbed the fruit in his hands, then ran to Xiao Shenxi, his little face covered in dirt, only his eyes shining brightly.
"Brother, eat."
Xiao Shenxi turned her head, frowned, and slapped it away.
Xiao Jiangci stared blankly at the green fruit on the ground, then looked up at her with tears welling up in her eyes.
"Stupid, toxic."
Xiao Shenxi spoke expressionlessly, then turned away. She had almost died after taking just one of those pills.
Tears welled up in Xiao Jiangci's eyes, but he didn't dare to touch them. He snapped out of his daze and immediately emptied the green fruit from his pocket, not daring to touch it with his little hand.
He's very easy to please.
He didn't even need to be coaxed; he was all smiles again.
Little Jiang Ci followed his brother around excitedly, pointing at this and that, asking Little Shen Xi if it was poisonous.
Little Shenxi was extremely annoyed. She nodded and shook her head, and finally simply ignored the little boy behind her and walked away alone with her head down.
Xiao Jiang also became well-behaved after resigning.
They walked all day without stopping, afraid of being overtaken and taken back.
No wonder no one guards this place. It's a desolate wilderness, surrounded by mountains on all sides, and there's not a soul in sight. To call it a primitive place would be an understatement.
After walking a short distance, you'll find a shallow, clear river.
It's almost over.
Xiao Shenxi breathed a sigh of relief.
Sometimes things just get worse.
From the moment Xiao Jiangci learned about many fruits, the task of picking fruits fell to him. He would always taste a bite first to make sure it was okay before handing it to his brother.
As a result, after eating the red berries, Xiao Jiangci collapsed.
Xiao Shenxi caught him quickly from behind, preventing him from falling to the ground.
The little boy was foaming at the mouth, and his face quickly turned blue and purple.
Little Shenxi was at a loss for words. She glared at him with nameless anger, wishing she hadn't brought this trouble along.
She immediately pinched his little mouth and pressed her fingers against his throat.
Xiao Jiangci immediately started vomiting, and Xiao Shenxi's actions were not gentle, even somewhat reckless.
He hadn't eaten anything else for a long time, so he couldn't vomit anything. After vomiting up the wild fruit he had eaten, he kept dry heaving.
Xiao Jiang became more lucid.
Xiao Shenxi, with his limp, led him to the riverbank, pointed at the flowing water, and said, "Drink."
Xiao Jiangci's face was flushed, and with a dizzy head, she bent down with difficulty and slowly drank the water.
"hurry up."
Xiao Jiangci suddenly sped up, and after a while she looked up, wide-eyed and trying to look innocent: "I can't drink anymore."
Xiao Shenxi was ruthless: "Continue, you can't stop unless I say stop."
Xiao Jiangci pouted, clutching his upset stomach, and continued drinking. By the end, his eyes were red and his whole face was flushed. After hesitating for a moment, he stammered, "I need to go to the toilet."
Xiao Shenxi nodded and let him go, turning her back to him.
Xiao Jiangci found a spot behind a tree and returned shortly after.
When he returned, his complexion was much better, but he still felt a little dizzy and his steps were unsteady, but he didn't say anything.
It was getting dark.
Xiao Shenxi led him on, and for the first time she spoke up: "We're almost out of the woods."
Xiao Jiangci immediately looked up and subconsciously replied, "Yes, yes, we can finally go back."
The good times didn't last long. When she was resting at night, Xiao Shenxi, with her eyes closed, felt a burning hot body leaning against her.
She reached out her little hand and groped around in the dark, then pursed her lips and asked, "Hey, are you awake?"
No one answered.
She sighed softly in the darkness.
Xiao Shenxi helped him lean against a tree, then quickly took off her worn-out, short coat and walked to the riverbank, where it was soaked with water.
Back beside Xiao Jiangci, she smeared black ink on his forehead.
Finally, in the middle of the night, his fever broke.
She sat quietly all night, gazing at the moon in the sky.
