Chapter 881 - 880: The Last Interviewee
Chapter 881 - 880: The Last Interviewee
Regarding this Manager Xu, Chu Ge actually just found it somewhat laughable and frustrating from the start, never really got angry. After all, anyone in a leadership position, when interrupted by work matters during a moment of stress, that feeling would definitely add fuel to the fire. Chu Ge completely understood. After hearing Xu Zhen's explanation, Chu Ge even felt some sympathy and apology towards him.
This person is named Xu Zhen, and his position is the second-in-command in the HR department. Of course, since Chu Ge is never there, this second-in-command position regarding work matters is pretty much no different from the first-in-command.
He's just joined Tianqing Company not long ago, has to get familiar with the company environment, and also do his job well, which is actually quite difficult. What's giving him a headache is that the general manager, Tong Yaqi, gives him an extremely heavy workload, with some tasks not even being within his responsibilities.
If it were just the workload, Xu Zhen might have attributed it to Tong Yaqi's trust and regard for him. But what's hard for him to accept is that Tong Yaqi is extremely demanding with regards to the HR department. Any small mistake would incur her great displeasure, and every time she sees him, it's never with a pleasant face.
This very morning, Tong Yaqi gave him a verbal lashing. The reason was some really small issues, and she insisted that he recruit enough high-end talents as soon as possible to meet the company's development needs.
Xu Zhen felt bitter inside. Of course, he came to work at Tianqing Company hoping to achieve something. He also wished to gather all the high-end talents, but talent isn't something like radishes or cabbages that you can grab a bunch of at the market. Is it something he could just recruit at his whim?
After a scolding, it wasn't over. Tong Yaqi gave him a strict order, giving him one week to recruit someone capable of taking on major responsibilities in the field of game character design.
What would happen if he couldn't manage it? Tong Yaqi didn't continue, but just from her sharp gaze back then, he could guess with his toes that it certainly wouldn't be a good outcome.
The best outcome might be a deduction in salary and bonus. As for the worst… it could be packing up and getting fired.
One week to find high-end talent capable of taking on major responsibilities in this kind of company, come on, isn't this making things difficult?
But even if Xu Zhen had thousands of grass-mud horses running wild in his heart, under the circumstances of facing Tong Yaqi's stern gaze, he could only grit his teeth and agree, assuring the task will be completed.
That's why he was so irritable today. Returning to the office, he called an early morning meeting for everyone, and as he issued tasks, he couldn't quite control his emotions.
The workplace is like this, one level presses on the other, like how the general manager would scold department managers after being scolded by the chairperson. Once department managers get scolded, naturally, it's then the department employees' turn.
When talking about these matters, Xu Zhen tried his best to keep calm, but between his words, there was still an inadvertent hint of frustration and grievance.
That look of distress seemed to say, "Dude, aren't you supposed to be the boss of the HR department? You're never at the company; you're so carefree, but you've put me in a tough spot!"
Xu Zhen didn't say it outright. After all, complaining about one leader to another can easily get oneself into trouble, especially in front of a leader you've just met and don't know well.
Even so, after Xu Zhen finished, Chu Ge still managed to clearly understand the causes and effects of these matters.
According to Chu Ge's guess, Tong Yaqi might indeed be deliberately making things difficult for Xu Zhen, and as for the reason... perhaps it's because Xu Zhen is in the department where he initially worked.
Maybe Tong Yaqi was deliberately or unconsciously using this way to vent emotionally, expressing the dissatisfaction caused by the long lack of contact with him.
Of course, this is just Chu Ge's own idea. Whether it's true or not, he cannot be sure, but nonetheless, this guy Xu Zhen in front of him is really unlucky.
Rubbing his forehead, Chu Ge tossed a lighter to Xu Zhen, "Have a smoke and relax. I just said, it's just the two of us here, no need to be so formal."
After catching Chu Ge's lighter, Xu Zhen hesitated for a moment, but eventually lit the cigarette, taking a deep drag and exhaling a cloud of heavy gloom.
Chu Ge picked up the ashtray from the table, came to Xu Zhen's side, placed it on the sofa armrest, and sat down next to him.
"Old Xu, any progress with the recruitment?"
Chu Ge asked this question, and Xu Zhen's face turned grim. He took another deep drag of the cigarette, exhaling wearily.
"There's a batch of interviews today; I'm planning to check it out personally, but honestly, I'm not too hopeful,"
"Having hope is better than none. Maybe there'll be a suitable one today. What time do the interviews start?"
Seeing that Chu Ge was always so kind and not at all giving him a hard time, Xu Zhen's bad mood finally eased a bit. He gave a grateful smile, "Starts at ten. Thanks for your kind words, let's hope so."
Chu Ge patted Xu Zhen on the shoulder, "I'll accompany you to take a look later, but first, tell me about the company's situation."
Xu Zhen agreed with a nod, tilted his head slightly to blow the smoke in the opposite direction of Chu Ge, stubbed out the cigarette in the ashtray, and seriously started reporting to Chu Ge.
Though asking Tong Yaqi directly would be the easiest, their different identities naturally led to different perspectives on the company. Moreover, Chu Ge felt that Xu Zhen's attitude towards work was quite earnest, so he wanted to hear Xu Zhen's views and feelings.
After Xu Zhen finished, Chu Ge talked with him a bit about the HR department's work. Unknowingly, it was already ten o'clock. The two summoned a clerk responsible for record-keeping and then headed directly to the interview room to start the interviews.
Sitting in the lead interviewer's seat, looking at the chair prepared for the interviewee on the opposite side, Chu Ge's mouth unconsciously lifted slightly, reminding him of when he applied to Tianjiao Film and Television as an administrative assistant, with Tong Yaqi as his interviewer.
Unknowingly, so much time had passed...
Chu Ge reminisced about the past, and the interview officially began.
The interviews were not conducted in a fixed group format; instead, interviewees came in one by one. Before coming in, there was a special room for them to rest and wait.
The first to come in was a rather sunny-looking young man, over 1.8 meters tall, who carried himself fairly confidently. Unfortunately, his skills were somewhat lacking. He could join the team but definitely couldn't take the lead.
The second interviewee was a quiet young girl, decent in appearance, but her abilities were even less than the previous guy.
The third, fourth, fifth...thirteenth, fourteenth...each was worse than the last.
As time ticked by, Xu Zhen's expression increasingly turned sour. It was clear the round of interviews was about to end, but what kind of people were these interviewees! Do they really think they can find a good job at a gaming company just by knowing how to play games!
The most ridiculous one came in bragging about how fast his hand speed was, saying if they brought in a keyboard, he could press the 'six' key two hundred and fifty times in one minute. This left Xu Zhen with the urge to slap the keyboard onto the guy's face.
Two hundred and fifty times 'six', seriously, this guy looks exactly like a total fool. Never mind the discussion of whether this is effective APM or not, what does hand speed have to do with game design?
If it were all about hand speed, they could write in the job ad that twenty years of single life is a requirement; what does this fool take this place for?
Having sent away this fool, only one interviewee was left, and Xu Zhen had lost all hope by then. Worn out and uninterested, he pinched the bridge of his nose and let out a long sigh.
Seeing Xu Zhen's defeated look, Chu Ge grinned at him, "Don't lose heart. Maybe this final act will surprise us? In movies, the true experts always appear last, right?"
Taking the obvious comforting words in stride, Xu Zhen forced a smile, said, "I'll take your word for it," and turned to look at the recorder with a listless nod, "Call in the next one."
The recorder went out, and in less than a minute, returned to the interview room with a girl.
The last interviewee was a girl about 1.7 meters tall, with jet-black hair gathered neatly into a bun at the back of her head. She wore an off-white blouse on the upper body, a black pencil skirt below, and a pair of black high heels—a typical office lady's attire.
None of her attire was any fancy brand, yet these clothes on her exuded an elegance that most girls her age did not have.
Despite her stunning appearance, given Xu Zhen's current mood, even if Diao Chan herself came in, he couldn't muster any interest, only casting her one glance before wearily saying, "Please sit," not even bothering to make a smiling face.
However, the girl did not immediately sit down. Her single-lidded large eyes stared directly at Chu Ge, filled with astonishment. In just a fraction of a second, her gaze shifted to show a mix of awkwardness and mischievousness.
At this moment, not only was the girl stunned, but Chu Ge was too. He was just about to drink water, his hand reaching for the mineral water beside him, but suddenly froze.
He couldn't believe he was encountering this woman in this place.
Damn, could this be real, that the last interviewee was Mu Chongyi's daughter, Mu Xiaoting, the Secretary of the Nanyun Provincial Party Committee?
What on earth is she up to?
Before Chu Ge could regain his composure, Mu Xiaoting was the first to recover hers. She nodded slightly to Chu Ge and Xu Zhen before sitting down in the chair directly opposite Chu Ge, a confident and relaxed smile playing at the corners of her mouth.
