Chapter 222 Were we young and ignorant?
The two walked into the elevator side by side, and Yu Yuetong felt her palms sweating. As the elevator ascended, she kept reciting the "secret manual" that the person had sent her yesterday: act naturally, act convincingly... But Qin Reng's unusual behavior today made her heart pound.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, a middle-aged man in a suit and gold-rimmed glasses stood in the doorway. Upon seeing Qin Reng, he immediately bowed respectfully and said, "Good morning, President."
Qin Reng nodded slightly and walked straight to his office. Yu Yuetong followed behind, trying her best to appear as a capable wife, not a fake.
"President, this is today's schedule." The middle-aged man handed over a document. "Nine o'clock, a high-level meeting; ten-thirty, business negotiations with representatives from Huaxing Group; two o'clock in the afternoon, lunch with Miss Ji, the daughter of the Ji Group..."
Qin Reng took the document, quickly glanced through it, and frowned slightly. "Lunch with Ji Momo is canceled."
"But..." the middle-aged man hesitated, "Miss Ji's side has already..."
"Don't you understand what I'm saying?" Qin Reng's tone was icy, carrying an undeniable air of authority.
The middle-aged man quickly bowed his head: "Yes, President."
Yu Yuetong listened with trepidation. Wasn't Ji Momo the supporting actress? It seemed Qin Reng didn't have a good impression of her either.
"Is there anything else?" Qin Reng asked Yu Yuetong.
Yu Yuetong quickly shook her head: "It's nothing, it's nothing."
"If there's nothing else, come with me to the conference room." Qin Reng said, then turned and walked towards the conference room.
Yu Yuetong followed reluctantly, her mind racing with how to handle the situation. Inside the conference room, a group of senior executives had been waiting for some time. Upon seeing the president and his wife enter, they all stood up to greet them.
Qin Reng gestured for everyone to sit down and began the meeting. Yu Yuetong sat beside him, trying her best to maintain a smile and refrain from expressing any opinions. But someone, of course, didn't want her to have her way.
"Madam President, what are your thoughts on this acquisition?" A bespectacled, shrewd-looking middle-aged man suddenly asked.
All eyes were on Yu Yuetong. She paused for a moment, then chuckled dryly, "Hehe, I... don't know much about the situation. I'll just listen to the president."
"The president's wife is too modest. Everyone knows that you turned the tide and saved the Qin Group from its decline," another executive said sarcastically. "You must have been researching this acquisition deal for a while now, right?"
Yu Yuetong felt a throbbing pain in her temples; these people were clearly trying to embarrass her. She secretly glanced at Qin Reng, only to find him sitting upright, his face expressionless.
"Since Mr. Liu is so interested in my opinion, then I'll share my thoughts." Yu Yuetong took a deep breath, deciding to meet challenges head-on. "Regarding this acquisition, I believe..."
Her brain was racing, trying to recall the information she had read before, as well as the business knowledge she had crammed for the night before, and she began to speak fluently.
The atmosphere in the meeting room suddenly became tense, with everyone expressing their opinions and debating endlessly. Yu Yuetong gradually got into the zone, skillfully defusing everyone's doubts and even offering several constructive suggestions.
Qin Reng remained silent, listening quietly and occasionally glancing at her with a meaningful look.
After the meeting, Yu Yuetong felt her throat was parched and her legs were a little weak. She secretly observed the reactions of the crowd and noticed that some people looked at her with admiration, while others remained skeptical.
"This meeting is now adjourned," Qin Reng finally said. "Meeting adjourned."
As everyone left the conference room, Qin Reng remained motionless, staring intently at Yu Yuetong.
"You did a good job," he said casually.
Yu Yuetong breathed a sigh of relief and was about to express her gratitude when she heard Qin Reng continue, "However... don't wear those high heels again next time."
Yu Yuetong looked down and realized that her heels were blistered and throbbing. She then realized that she had been wearing five-centimeter heels for two whole hours to maintain the image of Mrs. Qin!
"I..." Yu Yuetong was on the verge of tears, "I forgot."
Qin Reng sighed, got up and walked to her side, then bent down and picked her up in his arms.
"Ah!" Yu Yuetong exclaimed, instinctively wrapping her arms around his neck. "What are you doing?"
"I'll take you to buy shoes." Qin Reng carried her toward the elevator. "A pair of ill-fitting shoes is not suitable for the battlefield-like environment of a shopping mall."
Held in his arms, Yu Yuetong felt the warmth emanating from him, and her heart began to race. She secretly glanced up at Qin Reng and noticed his sharply defined profile, making him exceptionally handsome.
"Thank you," she said softly.
Qin Reng didn't speak, but looked down at her with a complicated expression.
The elevator doors slowly opened, and Yu Yuetong was about to struggle to get off when she heard Qin Reng say, "Don't move, just hold me like this."
Yu Yuetong froze. A faint scent of pine lingered in the air, mixed with a masculine aroma, making her feel slightly dizzy. She remained frozen in place, afraid to move lest she fall.
"Put me down, it's not good if someone sees us," she said in a low voice.
Qin Reng remained unmoved, walked straight out of the elevator, and went all the way to the parking lot. He placed her in the passenger seat and bent down to fasten her seatbelt.
"You did very well today." Qin Reng looked directly into her eyes, his tone serious. "But next time, don't try to be a hero."
Yu Yuetong felt a warmth in her heart, but then a hint of doubt crept in. Was he showing concern for her? Or... was it simply a boss's praise for a subordinate?
"I just don't want to embarrass you." She lowered her eyes, concealing the turmoil in her heart.
Qin Reng started the car and slowly drove out of the parking lot. "Disgraceful?" he chuckled. "When have you ever cared about my reputation?"
Yu Yuetong was speechless, her mind filled with the various sycophantic behaviors the original owner had shown towards Qin Reng, and she immediately felt extremely embarrassed.
"I was just... young and ignorant," she said with a forced laugh.
Qin Reng didn't reply, and the carriage fell silent. Yu Yuetong secretly observed his profile and, finding that he didn't seem angry, felt slightly relieved.
The car stopped in front of a high-end shoe store. Qin Reng got out of the car, walked around to the passenger seat, and carried her out again.
"Hey! Really, you don't need to!" Yu Yuetong felt her face burning. "I can walk by myself!"
Qin Reng glanced down at her, a hint of mockery in his eyes: "Are you sure?"
When Yu Yuetong met his gaze, her confidence instantly vanished: "Unsure..."
Qin Reng smiled and carried her into the shoe store. The sales clerk immediately greeted him warmly upon seeing him: "Mr. Qin, you've arrived!"
