Chapter 253 - 250: You’re Having a Pretty Comfortable Time as a Miss Shelby
Besides, Seth Quinn is the president of a film company, and that woman is an actress. It’s entirely possible she had the opportunity to seduce him.
The more Yvette Zimmerman thought about it, the more certain she became. She abandoned her card game, grabbed Cherie Rhodes, and started heading back. "This won’t do. I have to go ask Sarah if that friend of hers is sleeping with Seth Quinn!"
Cherie Rhodes wanted to ask, ’So what if she is? Do you really think Autumn Shelby and Seth Quinn still have a chance?’
But she couldn’t say that. It would infuriate Yvette Zimmerman. She had worked so hard to get a place in the Shelby family home, allowing Sarah to finally be officially recognized.
So, in Yvette Zimmerman’s presence, she could only swallow her pride, act with deep humility, and cater to her every whim.
"Big Sister, how would Sarah know about something like that? It’s a private matter, after all. Besides, Big Sister, didn’t we agree to play cards with Mrs. Quincy and the others? It’s almost time..."
But before she could finish, Yvette Zimmerman cut her off. "Forget the card game! What’s more important, Autumn’s situation or a game of cards? If this were about Sarah, would you still be so calm about going to play?
Don’t you forget, it was my approval that let you into the Shelby family. It’s because of me you get to live this comfortable life, and Sarah gets to be formally recognized instead of being called an ugly name like ’bastard’!
Now that you’re in the Shelby family, you will treat me as your superior and prioritize the family’s interests in all things. Autumn is the eldest daughter of the Shelby family. What’s your status? I only allow you to call me ’Big Sister’ out of the kindness of my heart. Don’t you dare forget your place because of it. We are the masters, and you are the servant!"
Cherie Rhodes’s face flushed red, then drained of color at her words. She lowered her head and said submissively, "Of course I remember your kindness, Big Sister. I won’t forget my place."
Only then was Yvette Zimmerman satisfied. She snorted coldly at her. "Let’s go!"
...
School was on break, and Sarah Shelby had just gotten back from a vacation abroad with her parents. Naturally, she was fast asleep under the covers this early in the morning.
A pleasant dream was interrupted by the doorbell. She dragged herself out of bed, yawning, and opened the door without looking. "Who is it?" she grumbled. "It’s the crack of dawn! Can’t a person get any sleep?"
Yvette Zimmerman shoved the door open and strode in, glaring at Sarah Shelby with disgust. "What time do you think it is, calling it the ’crack of dawn’? You certainly have it comfortable as a Miss Shelby, don’t you? Is all you know how to do eat, drink, play, and sleep all day?"
She had to admit, ’I don’t like this Sarah Shelby. I really don’t like her.’
’Putting aside the fact that she’s the illegitimate daughter my husband kept on the side for years, I can’t stand her personality and temper alone.’
’Sarah Shelby has too much of a personality—fiery, stubborn, and unyielding. She’s nothing like her mother, Cherie Rhodes, who’s a total pushover.’
’But there was nothing to be done about it. Evan Shelby doted on her as if she were a precious treasure.’
In the middle of a yawn, Sarah Shelby’s eyes focused on the speaker. A flash of shock appeared in them, quickly replaced by disgust.
"Well, look who it is. Mrs. Shelby. To what do I owe the honor of you gracing my humble place with your presence?"
The words were barely out of her mouth when she felt a tug on her sleeve. She turned around and saw her mother standing behind her. "Mom?"
"Sarah, what is that tone? You child, show some respect. Call her Aunt." Cherie Rhodes ignored her question, her face hardening as she reprimanded her.
Although reluctant, Sarah Shelby did it for her mother’s sake, hoping to make her life in the Shelby family easier. She turned to the scowling Yvette Zimmerman and mumbled grudgingly, "Aunt."
Yvette Zimmerman merely let out a cold snort before marching straight into the living room and sitting down on the sofa.
Cherie Rhodes gave her daughter’s arm a squeeze and shot her a warning look before pulling her down to sit on the sofa as well.
Sarah Shelby was still puzzling over the meaning of her mother’s glance when Yvette Zimmerman’s voice cut through the air again.
