Chapter 1143: We’re All Adults Here, We Understand
Ariella Sawyer stared at Ryan Walyon for quite a while, feeling a bit sorry for him...
Ryan didn’t know what he had just discussed with Watt Bennet. He kept his back to her, drinking alone.
Ariella wasn’t very familiar with him and hadn’t planned to acknowledge him, deciding instead to leave directly. Just then, a friend of Ryan’s at the same table suddenly called out to her from a distance, "Miss Sawyer, you’re here too! What a coincidence today!"
The people sitting with Ryan were all big shots; Ariella had once shot an advertisement for that person’s company.
"Miss Sawyer, come over and sit with us!" That person stood up, enthusiastically approaching Ariella.
Ariella was just a small-time artist and couldn’t afford to offend these big shots. Though she was reluctant, she still followed him over.
The person pulled Ariella to sit in Watt Bennet’s just-vacated seat, right next to Ryan.
Ryan looked at her in surprise.
Turning his face, he stared at her for a while.
"Don’t drink too much, or you’ll get lectured by your grandfather again," Ariella kindly reminded him.
With Adrian not around, Ryan was Old Master’s only hope. The old man disliked seeing Ryan drunk, as it was bad for his image.
"You two know each other?" Ryan’s friend, who had pulled Ariella over, looked at Ryan and then at Ariella, surprised.
Ariella didn’t dare climb the social ladder with Ryan, so she kept silent.
Instead, Ryan responded with a non-committal "Mm," acknowledging the person.
"You seem pretty close?" The person casually said.
Ryan responded again with a quiet "Mm."
Ariella was a bit dumbfounded.
How were they close?
In Ryan’s mind, he thought, after meeting so many times, how could they not be considered close?
But the client clearly misunderstood his meaning.
"Quite close indeed..." He dragged out the words, his gaze between the two becoming suggestive.
Ariella caught sight of his gaze and instantly realized something was off.
"No, actually we’re just..." She tried to explain, but the client interrupted her, "No worries, no worries, we understand, we’re all adults here."
What does "we’re all adults here" even mean?
Ariella felt the person was digging deeper with his words.
"Little Bell, I happen to have an endorsement deal available. Drop by the company someday, and we’ll sign the contract!" the person said again.
A stroke of luck, Ariella was just about to nod in agreement, when the person circled around to her, whispering softly, "I happen to have a deal with the Walyon Clan Group; could you talk to Young Master Walyon for me? I’m counting on you for this!"
Ariella was taken aback, instantly understanding his implication.
He was asking Ariella to leverage her relationship with Ryan for an endorsement!
"President Chapman, you’ve misunderstood. I’m not that close with Mr. Walyon," Ariella explained, hoping to clear up the misconception.
Yet, the person seemed indifferent.
"Mr. Walyon just confirmed you’re close; our company’s matter is relying on you. You two have a good rapport, so just whisper that encouragement in his ear." Patting Ariella’s shoulder, the person returned to his seat.
Ariella’s expression darkened again.
What did he mean by "whispering encouragement in his ear"?
He was practically asking her to take it privately with Ryan!
Even after several years in the entertainment industry, Ariella had maintained her personal principles.
Angry at the person’s insinuations, she held back a breath and was just about to swallow her drink when she turned her head and saw Ryan watching her.
His gaze made Ariella freeze for a second.
Before she could react, he slowly said, "I heard everything."
