Chapter 1011 Batman: The Dragon... The First Meeting with the Omnipotent Universe Recorder
The recorder sensed something was amiss; normally, he wouldn't have any other thoughts besides recording.
His job is to enter the final story of each multiverse that is about to be destroyed. It's like in a pottery class, the teacher usually asks a student to write down the names of those who accidentally made a mess of their pottery, and then write a sentence or two of comments on each of their pottery.
They sometimes summarize the reasons why a pottery piece fails, but they also evaluate the good parts. However, in general, the good outweighs the bad. Even if there are occasional bright spots, it cannot change the fact that the pottery piece is bad and will eventually be sent to be destroyed and remade.
But for the recorder, this ceramic piece was different from the multiverses he had previously documented.
He was so perfect and so dazzling that the recorder couldn't help but feel an urge to record more of the beauty of this multiverse. It wouldn't have felt this way if it were a vulgar or inferior multiverse.
However, the destruction of such a brilliant multiverse still evoked a sense of regret in him.
So he once again broke through time and space, trying to find people who might know more about this multiverse.
As he reassembled his body amidst the chaotic steel ruins, he was greeted by a swarm of Brainiac steel robots humming, "Destroy the intruders!"
The next second, the recorder merely pushed his palm slightly to the side, and the Brainiac robots were burned to ashes in the flames.
"Stop wasting your defensive resources. Your drones can't harm me in the slightest. As an agent of the omnipotent universe, I am protected by the origin of all things. Show yourself now!"
The recorder stated, "Will Dox, son of Brainiac. (i.e., Brainiac 2.0)."
A green-clad figure wearing a scientist's white coat appeared before the recorder with his hands behind his back.
"Welcome, welcome, esteemed Omnipotent Recorder of the Universe. I have been waiting for your arrival. There are so many Brainiacs in this multiverse, and Brainiac 2.0 is always the upgraded version."
For the past few months, as Batman: Dragon and Perpetual began to tear reality apart, I've been hiding in the Vanishing Point, a place that helps me avoid those rifts in reality, trying my best to ensure I'm the last survivor of this catastrophe. I've sent signals to the omnipotent universe, attempting to escape before this multiverse faces its inevitable demise.
Those idiots from the Essence Society tried to invite me to escape with them down another dead end. After seeing what happened to them, I'm so glad I wasn't stupid enough to listen to them.
And now, I've finally got the opportunity I've been waiting for.
Brainiac's son, despite having his hands behind his back, managed to suppress his excitement.
"I detected an intrusion from the Omnipotent Void, in addition to the Void Hand summoned by Batman Dragon. I suspect that was you."
"That's right," the recorder said.
"Yes, I'm basically never wrong. I have a suggestion. This spaceship belongs to my father. His database stores the history of this multiverse, as well as all the texts from every world my father recorded and destroyed, and the complete archive of my home planet, Kru. The only currency circulating in the omnipotent universe must be information itself. Why don't we make a deal?"
But Brainiac's son did not hear the answer he wanted.
"I am very satisfied with what you have provided. I admit that this work is more interesting than I expected, but I do not have the right to make a deal with the King. I can only observe and record before moving on to another place."
As the recorder spoke, he opened his omnipotent codex, and then the Son of Brainiac's eyes emitted an orange light. In an instant, all the information in the entire spaceship was read by the recorder in an unknown way.
"I do not understand----"
The recorder watches these stories: Crisis on Infinite Earths, Infinite Crisis, Zero Hour, Final Crisis, New 52, D
c Multiverse Rebirth —
Green Lantern Corps, Adam Warrior, Brainiac, Mongo, Darkseid —
Speed Force, Emotional Spectrum, Life Force, Divine Realm, Collective Unconscious —
"With so many primordial forces existing in this multiverse, how did it come to this point, constantly oscillating between destruction and survival?"
After learning so much, even the omnipotent recorder of the universe began to feel indignant. It was like seeing a super-rich second-generation heir with an enviable vast fortune, yet squandering it on gambling, drinking, and prostitution, to the point of almost having to beg on the streets. You couldn't understand it, and you couldn't quite accept it: "This is a world for heroes and villains, and their cosmic fairy tale should continue forever, shouldn't it?"
"Tch. Before you become so compassionate, why don't you stay here for a few days and see? Those cosmic fairy tales often cause all sorts of time-travel chaos. Don't feel sorry for them. It's not like there aren't other places or other stories."
While the recorder was wallowing in melancholy, Brainiac's son launched a sudden attack. He raised his wristwatch and fired a pink beam of light at the recorder, creating an energy cage that trapped the omnipotent recorder within.
"I plan to go and explore it myself," he said after capturing the recorder.
Clearly, Green Brainiac 2.0 has a planb: if he can't make a deal with the Omniverse's recorder, he'll capture him.
The recorder lowered his eyes.
"Do you really want to know what exists outside your reality? Those multiverses that I recorded at the moment of their demise?"
The recorder lifted his foot, and the energy cage instantly vanished into thin air. He held up the pages of the book in his hand and waved them slightly in front of the Son of Brainiac. The sheer volume of information nearly exploded the other's brain.
"The Omnipotent Codex records the stories of billions of destroyed multiverses. Do you want to know what most of them looked like at the time of their destruction? You don't appreciate what you have at all, Veldox. You are so arrogant that you would give up your undeveloped potential just to reach that so-called better other shore in your dreams. Your knowledge is too limited, and I need more."
The recorder ignored him and turned to leave.
"No, you're lying. There's definitely more to this than just reality; there must be a better place—"
""
The shouts of the Son of Brainiac echoed behind him, but the recorder had already broken through space and left.
He traversed the hypertime stream, walked across the surface of the moon in the shattered timeline of the main universe, and observed Batman Dragon, now fully transformed into the Ultimate Watcher, and Perpetua unleashing terrifying cosmic-level power, watching the two of them repeatedly erase reality like a comic book.
He looked down at Earth in the main universe beneath him, his gaze stretching towards a future before the hypertime flow had taken shape. This was the site of the final battle, a desperate fight about to begin amidst a backdrop destined for annihilation. And that time would very well mark the end of the DC multiverse.
The recorder wanted to say he had hope for the world, he wanted to convince the world that there was still a future, but just one glance revealed a dense array of beings like the Void Hand and Dr. Manhattan, far exceeding the crisis that this DC multiverse could withstand.
Papetua will eventually leave the wall, either now or in the future.
But now an even greater force was urging the recorder to set off. His legal code was filled with all the recorded and lost history, which he replayed in his mind over and over again. Then he made a decision.
He went to the moon in the main universe and found the location.
Amidst the white dust, the recorder bent down, gently dug around a couple of times, and pulled out a skull from the sand. He then searched around and found several bones, piecing together an almost complete skeleton.
"I don't think my superiors will approve my current actions, but the multiverse can't offer enough for my immediate needs. I need someone to give me a new perspective, someone who has witnessed this universe before me just like I have—an observer, awaken, insignificant god—awaken, Metatron."
He spoke in a low voice, and then a flash of blue light appeared, and the Observer of the New God was resurrected in the blue light. He did not return to the embrace of the Lady of Death, but rather became a death belonging to the New God after death, the Black Glider.
The recorder resurrected him in just one sentence.
"I—I don't understand—"
"You were destroyed some time ago, and I have rebuilt you."
"And who are you?"
"I am a cosmic-level clerk from the omnipotent universe, tasked with recording the last breath of a dying multiverse. People call me the Recorder. You have caused this chaos, and I need to know the specific background."
But the newly resurrected Metron was full of questions.
"The multiverse is on its last legs? How long has it been since I died? Who is responsible for this catastrophe?"
"See for yourself," the recorder said, pointing with his small hand.
The new god Metatron looked up and was immediately taken aback. The Recorder resurrected him at a point slightly upstream in the hyperchronic flow, so at this moment, Batman's Dragon was still fighting Perpetual in his Ultimate Monitor in the distance.
The scene of gods fighting left him speechless. Metron saw the ultimate surveillance Batman Dragon lift up an Earth on the edge of the main universe, which was the core of a parallel universe. Then he slammed the core of the universe along with the entire universe onto Papetua's face, killing countless Black Lantern corpses on it.
What? What the hell are these Black Lantern Corpses? Metron looked down and saw that Earth in the main universe was also full of Black Lantern Corpses. He barely managed to observe the other parallel universes, and as far as the eye could see, there wasn't a single living person, only corpses crawling around on the ground.
Oh no! Waaah!
He cried out in despair, "So now the DC multiverse is going to be destroyed?"
"Not yet. It was supposed to be destroyed, but it was forcibly saved. However, destruction was inevitable sooner or later."
"Huh? It's not over yet?"
"Yes, we are currently upstream in the hyper-time stream, observing the process of this disaster unfolding."
The recorder said, “You must understand, Metatron, by your standards, my journey has lasted for countless years. I have visited many incredible worlds and witnessed countless wondrous events, but compared to what is before me, they are nothing. I have seen creatures with extraordinary abilities, but none have ever been able to compare with what is before me.”
"Most of the stories I've recorded in the books I have are mundane, featuring ordinary humans who succumb to entropy after a long period of corruption. But this multiverse is different; these stories are not like that. Yet, they cannot reach their natural end but are torn apart by a series of nightmares. You must help me understand. There's another question I want to know—even though this multiverse has been turned into this state, why hasn't it been destroyed immediately?"
"This is all completely new information to me. Perpetual is free, the Dark Multiverse has broken free of its shackles, and all the secrets of the multiverse have been exposed, tearing it to shreds. There's also a Batman from a parallel universe I don't recognize, calling himself Batman Dragon. I've read a bit of the history upstream in the timeline, and this guy has now replaced the Justice League in the main universe, becoming the guardian of the entire DC multiverse. What the hell is all this?! Since Crisis on Infinite Earths, there has never been a history where the Justice League didn't save the multiverse!"
"That's what I want to understand: why is this happening?"
But Metron did not answer him immediately. He continued, "I am a detached observer. Through my Möbius chair, I observe things from a macro perspective. The stories I have witnessed, in turn, have consumed me. They are so heavy, so terrible."
"I don't understand—" the recorder said.
"You want to save him, don't you? You want to fix this multiverse, to set things right, and you're willing to defy your duty for it?"
The recorder remained silent.
"The specifics are hard to explain, I—" Metron wanted to say something more, but then they both heard a low slap.
.
Well, well, well. When I discovered that someone upstream in the timeline was rewriting history, I thought Perpetual had been resurrected. You know, that really gave me a huge scare. Although I had considered that Perpetual might be unwilling to accept this history and try to do sit-ups repeatedly, I really didn't think that after even the first Genie had sacrificed himself, what method could Perpetual possibly use to change history?
"Now that we've discovered it wasn't her who changed history, but you, honestly, that's a huge relief."
They both heard Batman Dragon's voice: "Now the question is, who are you?"
