Chapter 204 Under Attack
Chapter 204 Under Attack
Lina breathed a slight sigh of relief after hearing the confirmation, but asked with a hint of doubt, "We encountered a suspicious car during our patrol, and this communicator came from that person."
"Why did you contact me using this number, and in such a strange place? What's going on on your end? Explain in detail."
Daigo then recounted to Rena everything they had encountered since entering this mysterious space, from the eerie atmosphere they felt upon entering, to the lifelike stone sculptures that seemed to possess souls, to the mysterious mural that exuded a strange aura, to finding the stone coffin after hearing a low roar, and finally discovering the prank toys and the notes and recording equipment inside, without holding back.
Lina listened quietly to Daigo's story. A soft gasp came from the other end of the phone, clearly indicating that she was also deeply shocked by this series of bizarre experiences.
"This sounds incredible, like falling into an elaborate trap."
Lina paused for a moment, then continued, "The person who intercepted the communicator was also behaving very strangely, talking about some kind of plan, but it turned out to be a misunderstanding; they were just playing a role-playing game."
Xincheng couldn't help but interject, "It seems that our two teams have wasted their time this time."
Daigo, however, did not readily agree with Shinjo's assessment. He frowned slightly, scanned the surrounding environment, and said, "Although they appear to be playing role-playing games, things are probably not that simple. If it were just a game, why would they design this communicator as a key tool to guide us here? And how do you explain the various strange arrangements in this mysterious space?"
Lina agreed on the other end of the phone: "Daigo is right. There must be more to this than meets the eye. Maybe their so-called role-playing is just a cover, and they have other ulterior motives. Perhaps the mysterious space you are in is connected to their real plan, but we haven't found any clues yet."
Xincheng scratched his head, somewhat annoyed, and said, "What do we do now? It feels like we're in a fog, unable to find our way."
Daigo took a deep breath and said calmly, "Now that we've come this far, we can't give up easily. Rena, you continue investigating the person who intercepted the communicator and see if you can uncover more about their true intentions behind their 'role-playing.' We won't let our guard down here either; we'll search this space carefully again to see if there are any clues we've missed."
Lina replied, "Okay, I'll do my best. You all need to be extremely careful over there, and contact me immediately if there are any new developments."
After hanging up the phone, Daigo and Shinjo perked up again and began a more detailed search of the mysterious space.
They began by examining the hall where the sarcophagus was placed, checking every inch of the walls, floor, and ceiling.
During the search, Xincheng suddenly noticed a stone slab on the ground next to the sarcophagus whose color was slightly different from the surrounding area.
He called Daigo over, and the two of them together lifted the stone slab.
A deep hole was revealed beneath the stone slab, and a damp, putrid odor wafted out.
Daigo took out a light and shone it down. He saw that the cave wall was covered with dense symbols and characters, which looked somewhat similar to the runes on the previous murals.
“New City, there seems to be important information hidden here. Let’s go down and take a look,” Daigo said.
Xincheng nodded, and the two carefully descended the simple steps leading down from the cave entrance.
The further down you go, the more stuffy the air becomes, and the temperature drops noticeably.
When they reached the bottom of the cave, they found a huge statue. The statue was a monster with a human body and bat wings, with a ferocious face and two gems that emitted a faint red light in its eyes.
The base of the statue is also covered with runes.
Daigo and Shinjo examined the statue closely, trying to decipher the meaning of the runes.
Daigo leaned closer to the rune, carefully examining the blurry lines on it, his brow furrowed as he tried to recall similar symbols he had seen in various ancient texts.
Xincheng paced around the statue, occasionally using the camera on his helmet to photograph the runes so that headquarters could analyze them.
Just as they were completely focused, the red light in the statue's eyes suddenly flashed violently, and then a powerful energy wave spread rapidly outward from the statue.
Daigo and Shinjo were thrown off balance by the force and both fell to the ground.
"Daigo, what's going on?" Shinjo shouted, his voice echoing in the enclosed space, tinged with panic.
"I don't know, let's be careful!" Daigo stood up with difficulty, staring warily at the statue.
As the energy fluctuations intensified, the air around the statue began to distort and deform, as if something was about to cross over from another dimension.
Immediately afterwards, wisps of black smoke billowed out from the cracks in the statue, gradually coalescing into blurry figures.
These figures varied in shape; some resembled humanoids, while others looked more like some strange creatures. They appeared and disappeared in the smoke, emitting low, guttural roars.
"What are these things?" Shinjo raised his weapon and nervously aimed at the dark figures.
"I don't know, but they seem dangerous." Daigo gripped his weapon tightly, ready to respond to any attack.
The shadowy figures seemed to sense Daigo and Shinjo's hostility and began to slowly approach them.
Daigo fired first, a beam of light shooting towards the dark figure at the front. The figure was hit by the light and let out a piercing scream before turning into a cloud of black smoke and disappearing.
But the other shadowy figures did not back down; instead, they sped up and charged toward the two.
Shinjo and Daigo stood back to back, firing continuously. For a moment, the cave was filled with gunfire and flashing lights.
However, shadowy figures kept pouring out of the statue, and the two men's ammunition gradually ran out, making the situation increasingly critical.
In the midst of the fierce battle, Daigo suddenly noticed that the runes on the statue's base seemed to flicker and change as the shadowy figure appeared.
A thought struck him: these runes might be the key to controlling the shadow.
"Shinjo, stop just shooting and see if you can damage the runes on the statue's base!" Daigo shouted.
Upon hearing this, Xincheng immediately turned and fired at the statue's base. After a few bullets, cracks appeared on the runes, and the shadowy figure's attacks seemed to weaken.
Seeing this, Daigo also focused his firepower on the rune.
As more and more cracks appeared on the runes, the appearance of the shadows slowed down significantly, and the shadows that had already appeared became weak and powerless, gradually dissipating into the air.
Finally, as the last rune shattered, all the shadows vanished, and the red light in the statue's eyes dimmed.
It was only then that Daigo remembered where he had seen it before.
The wings of a bat, the horns of a goat.
Isn't this a symbol of the devil?
