Chapter 5 Li Lianhua expresses her gratitude
Chapter 5 Li Lianhua expresses her gratitude
When Wu You woke up the next day, she didn't wear the clothes she had worn the day before. Instead, she bought a set of clothes online that resembled those worn by unmarried women in the town she had seen the day before. She simply put her hair in a bun since she didn't know how to style it. She then carried a cloth bag with some food on her back and went out.
However, I didn't go directly to the fish town. What if someone was watching my actions yesterday?
Arriving at the beach where they had reached the day before, with no one around, they slowly ate their bread while pondering their plan as they walked towards the sand. Before they knew it, they had reached the spot where Li Xiangyi had been lying injured. They found a rock, sat down, and gazed at the sea, their expressions somewhat dazed.
Having grown up on land, this was the first time I had ever seen the ocean except yesterday. It would be a lie to say I wasn't awestruck. Yesterday, however, it happened so suddenly that I didn't have time to think about it.
The azure sky, the vast sea, the deafening roar of the waves, the salty, humid air—everything was so unfamiliar that I was unconsciously mesmerized, and even my hands stopped moving.
When Li Lianhua arrived, this was the scene she saw: the woman staring intently at the sea, seemingly lost in thought or contemplating something, tearing at something with her hands, as if it were the food she had seen when she woke up yesterday. She wore an elegant dress, the hem of which swayed in the wind, and had no ornaments on her head except for a bun on top, with her wispy hair fluttering in the wind.
Li Lianhua had rushed over this morning to see if the savior who had treated her yesterday was still there, so that she could express her gratitude if he was.
Now that he saw her, he immediately went to the woman's side, bowed and greeted her: "I am Li Lianhua, greetings to you, young lady. May I ask if you treated me here yesterday?"
Wu You was staring blankly at the sea when a clear and pleasant voice suddenly reached his ears. Looking up, he saw a person dressed in white, just like yesterday, with a handsome and dashing face and bright, piercing eyes that seemed to hold a sky full of stars, staring at him.
Wu You was taken aback, then quickly stood up and waved his hand, saying, "Young master, you misunderstand. I don't know anything about medicine, how could I save people?" Wu You actually didn't want to reveal himself so early.
"Really?" Li Xiangyi asked incredulously, his eyes fixed on the item in Wu You's hand.
Wu You followed his gaze and noticed the unfinished bread in her hand, which gave her away. She chuckled and politely asked, "Are you hungry? Want some?"
"Thank you very much, young lady. I haven't had breakfast yet since I came here this morning." Li Lianhua said deliberately, seeing that the other party seemed distant and wanted to send her away, and sat down on the stone next to her.
Wu You choked. He had only said it politely; he hadn't really intended to invite him to breakfast. Was Li Lianhua always this shameless? Oh well, he had already said it, so he could only agree. He sat down, took two loaves of bread from his bag, and handed them to him: "Just tear it open like this and you can eat it."
"Thank you, young lady." Li Lianhua took the bread and, imitating Wu You's hand, pinched the top and tore it open. A rich aroma of pastry wafted out. She took a bite, and it was soft and sweet, just the taste she liked. It was so delicious that her eyes narrowed.
Seeing that he was enjoying his food, Wu You took two cartons of milk from her bag, inserted straws, and handed them to him, saying, "This is milk, don't choke." She then picked up the other carton and drank from it as a demonstration.
"Okay." Li Lianhua took the milk and, imitating Wu You, took a sip through the straw. Instantly, an indescribable taste filled her mouth. She had never drunk milk before and had no idea it tasted like this. Seeing the girl's calm expression as she drank, she felt embarrassed to spit it out and forced it down. She thought to herself, "I've never seen any of these things this girl brought out before. How come one of them tastes so good, while another one tastes so awful?"
Seeing Li Lianhua's bewildered expression, Wu You wanted to laugh but held it back. He explained, "Young Master Li, this is pure milk, good for calcium, and without any added sugar. It's not a taste you're used to the first time you drink it. Look at me, I've been drinking it for over ten years and I think it's delicious. Would you like me to change it to water?"
"No need, it's fine." Li Lianhua waved her hand, then drank the milk in a few gulps while holding her breath, and then started enjoying her bread.
"I'll make you milk tea sometime. Most people like it; it's sweet, and you might like it," Wu You said, suppressing a laugh as she looked at his resigned expression.
"That's wonderful, then thank you in advance, young lady. I don't know your name or where you live yet, but I will definitely visit you in person another day to express my gratitude for saving my life."
"It's alright to come and thank me. I only provided some medicine. You're lucky to be alive. My name is Wu You, and I'm currently thinking about where to settle down."
“Miss Wu, there’s no need to be modest. It’s thanks to your medicine that I was able to survive. I intend to settle down here. If you’re bored after you’ve settled down, you can come and chat with me.”
"Oh? You're planning to settle down here? I don't even know where I'm going yet. I might as well settle down here too, and we can be neighbors."
"Of course you can, but are you all alone, young lady? Where do you have somewhere to go?"
"I always thought I was an orphan. If it weren't for my master saving me, I would have died long ago. I've been staying with my master in the mountains. My master told me that when he found me, I was wearing a jade pendant. He told me to go down the mountain to look for it and see the world." Wu You casually made up a lie.
"I see. Aren't you in a hurry to find your relatives? How can you find them if you're settled here?" Li Lianhua was puzzled by this approach.
"I've only just come down from the mountain, so I only have a vague understanding of what's going on outside. I need to learn more about it first. I've never been to any other places, and you're the first person I've met. Besides, it's been more than ten years, so there's no rush."
“That is indeed possible, but I don’t know what you have learned in the mountains. I can tell that you don’t seem to have any internal strength or martial arts skills.”
"I don't know if what I know is different from what you know; we'll find out later. Speaking of martial arts, no one in the mountains knows them; I only learned about them after I left the mountains."
"I've heard of Li Xiangyi, the number one martial artist in the world. I wonder what kind of person he is that is so revered by everyone in the martial arts world. But I believe they all have discerning eyes, and Li Xiangyi is definitely worthy of their admiration. Don't you think so?" Wu You stared at Li Lianhua with bright eyes.
Meeting those bright, watery eyes, Li Lianhua looked away with difficulty. "I guess so, but it's just a pair of eyes and a mouth, nothing more than that."
“While what you said makes sense, he is different. Young Master Li, I must thank you for taking him in.”
"It's not a matter of taking me in. From now on, we'll be neighbors. Don't call me Young Master Li anymore. Just call me Brother Li or Li Lianhua."
"Brother Li, just call me Youyou then."
“No, that won’t do. We’ve only just met, and we can’t offend you, young lady.” Li Lianhua repeatedly refused the suggestion.
"We're all people of the martial world, we don't care about these things. I call you Brother Li, so you should call me Little Sister Wu, but Little Sister Wu doesn't sound nice, so I'll just call you Youyou instead."
“Okay,” Li Lianhua couldn’t refuse.
The two of them silently ate while looking at the sea.
