Chapter 10 Robots Defend the Nation
Chapter 10 Robots Defend the Nation
DAY6
After the viral rain, the water source was completely unusable; even a tiny bit could lead to infection. The dormitories that had collected supplies from the ground the previous night were almost completely wiped out. More and more zombies were roaming the community, and there were rustling sounds coming from the doorways. Gu Nanfeng conservatively estimated that the number of zombies in the university town now exceeded that of normal humans.
The government's live broadcast remained suspended. Forty-eight hours later, drones reappeared over the campus, but this time there were far fewer. In this era of widespread electronic robotics, having only a few drones hovering and broadcasting over the school is rather infrequent.
Gu Nanfeng listened intently through the balcony glass for a long time before he could make out what had happened: the group of zombie soldiers infected by the virus rain had led a massive zombie horde to destroy the television station, besiege the government office park, and damage water, electricity, and gas facilities. The internet had also gradually collapsed that morning. Taking advantage of the government forces being preoccupied with their own problems, the zombie army had also swiftly attacked two large quarantine zones.
The government is currently urging residents with sufficient supplies to stay home and await rescue. Residents lacking supplies, if possible, should choose midday when zombies are less active and, while ensuring their own safety, proceed to the shelters of the district governments under the jurisdiction of G City. Alternatively, they can gather in small groups of 30 to 50 people and contact the district government rescue teams via drones or other means, with the district governments providing transportation.
"Our dormitory still has power; it should have automatically switched to solar power. But this kind of unified solar power supply in residential communities probably won't last long." As the developer of the community, Gu Nanfeng knew a bit about these things.
"And what the broadcast just said is that this time it's not the quarantine zone that's being opened, it's the shelter. It seems the situation outside is worse than we thought." Pei Sihao had just started speaking when they heard a loud bang outside the window, and one of the drones crashed down from the sky.
Gu Nanfeng looked over and saw a female zombie on the rooftop of the girls' dormitory across the way, holding a bow and arrow, aiming at another drone. Perhaps due to her mutated body and less flexible joints, the second arrow missed. The drone then finished broadcasting its final message and quickly retreated. This had probably happened too many times; the government simply didn't have enough drones left to use.
"This zombie world is completely different from the one in my database!" PC004261 was stunned. In their government's security system robots, there are contingency plans stored, including various viruses, mutated creatures, AI rebellion, and zombie worlds. But the zombies in their database don't destroy robots first! They usually bite people.
“It can only be said that this virus is evolving with the times, or…” Gu Nanfeng paused for a moment, then continued, “or it was originally created to address the current situation.”
"It seems some people can't hold on any longer." Pei Sihao had somehow reached the window and could already see figures moving inside some of the dormitories.
Because the dormitory building was built according to the model of a residential building in a community, there is a two-story parking garage on the ground floor. After all, more and more students own cars now, and they can also collect some parking fees.
They had already seen cars driving out of the parking lot, but due to a network outage, the parking lot gates couldn't open automatically, and the first car was torn apart by the surrounding zombies before it could even drive out.
"Holy crap, what kind of car do you need to drive to get out of here?!" Pei Sihao exclaimed, looking at the torn-up J-series car. Within minutes, the four girls in the car had become friendly with the zombies that had ripped up their car and were now working together to destroy the next vehicle.
The second car wasn't much better than the first. From the 12th floor, it was impossible to tell whether it was driven by a man or a woman. They were probably scared by the state of the first car and were about to reverse when a Mercedes-Benz G-Class came up behind them and rammed into the car in front, damaging the engine compartment and tilting the car in front. Then the G-Class floored the gas pedal and sped off.
“Brother Feng, I remember you have a G-Class.” Pei Sihao, who had witnessed the whole thing, looked up at Gu Nanfeng. He also had a G-Class, but he had lent it to a friend to show off last week and hadn’t returned it yet.
“I should have a lot of these cars…” A small head suddenly popped up between Gu Nanfeng and Pei Sihao. Lu Yuan remembered checking his space earlier and said, “If these are not models, he probably has about 35 cars like the ones we just saw.”
"What kind of magical father not only gave us food, but also prepared a means of escape?" Pei Sihao almost jumped up.
“This vehicle doesn’t even have as many armored vehicles as there are armored vehicles.” Lu Yuan checked the spatial interface again and was surprised to find that he not only had armored vehicles but also tanks. Gu Nanfeng seemed to understand after hearing this.
"The person who gave Xiaoyuan this space has most likely experienced all of this. He should be someone who has been reborn. There are no other cars in the space, and not many G-Wagons either. It should be for Xiaoyuan's use in the early stages. The power of the zombies in the later stages may be unimaginable to us now." Gu Nanfeng said while instructing everyone to pack up and carry things, leaving the unimportant ones behind.
“Xiao Yuan’s location cannot be exposed. My car is in my garage. The dormitory has no water, gas, or internet, and the electricity is about to be cut off. When we go back to the dormitory, someone from another dormitory will definitely see us. We can’t stay here any longer, or it will arouse suspicion. While everyone is running for their lives, let’s pack our things and move to my house in the villa area.”
Upon hearing Gu Nanfeng's words, Lu Yuan and Pei Sihao immediately sprang into action. A dormitory that remained too calm would arouse suspicion. Although the system hadn't collapsed yet, and they didn't have anything to offer that others could steal, they needed to leave the dormitory first. They couldn't afford to be targeted by malicious individuals simply because they were different from others.
Looking at it this way, PC004261 seems to have nothing to do, since he has nothing.
"Have you thought about what to do in the future?" Gu Nanfeng came out carrying his neatly packed backpack. He didn't take anything with him; for some reason, he just felt that Lu Yuan's storage space probably contained a lot of their spare underwear. Seeing the electronic police car reminded him of something important.
He didn't tell Lu Yuan that on the first night the policeman arrived, he had tampered with his system. Although it promised not to upload any data about Lu Yuan's space, Gu Nanfeng was glad that he had immediately disconnected PC004261 from the university town's central control system. Otherwise, the data would have been transmitted back to the central control system in real time the moment Lu Yuan's cola fell out of thin air.
“I previously shut down your connection with the University City Police Control Center. At the time, I was thinking of erasing the order for you to arrest Xiao Yuan after shutting it down, so I restored it for you. Later, I discovered that Xiao Yuan had a space, so I didn’t reopen it for you. Otherwise, Xiao Yuan would have been discovered long ago.”
“I know.” As a mature AI robot that has been used for many years, PC004261 certainly knew that it had lost connection with the central control system the night it entered the door.
"So what do you think? Should you get a new name and come with us to survive the apocalypse, or stay here, or..." Pei Sihao also brought out a bunch of things, and while organizing them, he joined the conversation, "Or maybe we can drive past the police station and take you back to your post?"
"No, no, I'll go with you. Just give me some sunlight." PC004261 felt a chill run down his spine at the thought of the densely packed zombies in the police station.
"So what should we call you from now on?" As he spoke, Lu Yuan also came out with a backpack. He didn't take much with him, as he had almost everything in his spatial storage, so he only took his ID and his father's medical bills. He didn't know if the current situation would affect the hospital's refrigeration equipment.
"Pei Sihao, are you out of your mind? You're even bringing game consoles to an escape mission, and so many of them at that?" Gu Nanfeng grabbed Pei Sihao's hand as he handed him the game consoles, then took them out one by one. "Do you think anyone would want to play games with you online at a time like this?"
"Brother Feng, this is the last one, this is a single-player game, no internet connection!" Pei Sihao made a last-ditch effort. Lu Yuan found it amusing and with a wave of his hand, he put everything into his spatial storage. Pei Sihao almost wanted to hug him and kiss him.
“I’ve made up my mind,” PC004261, who was still playfully packing up, suddenly spoke up. “Although I’m currently a ‘deserter’ from the University City Police Station, I still want to keep moving forward, protect the country and its people, and when we reach the government shelter, I can join other rescue efforts! From now on, you can call me Weiguo!”
"Well done, Weiguo!" Lu Yuan patted him on the shoulder excitedly.
“Even after the zombie virus ends, I will still arrest you according to the law!” Wei Guo sternly patted Lu Yuan on the shoulder.
