Chapter 242: The Medical Dispute
Chapter 242: The Medical Dispute
The two waited outside for a while, but the line showed no signs of shortening. Zhang Lei then pulled Ye Shuqi to cut in line. They had barely stopped when a man blocked their way: "Hey, hey, what's going on with you two? Everyone's queuing up, why aren't you queuing?"
Zhang Lei glanced at him and said calmly, "You're queuing because you're sick, I'm not queuing because I'm not sick." The man was speechless. Then another person said, "If you're not sick, why are you at the infirmary?"
Zhang Lei retorted, "What business is it of yours whether I come to the infirmary or not? Besides, who says you can't come to the infirmary if you're not sick? Can't I come to see a friend?" Seeing Zhang Lei's aggressive tone, the man angrily asked, "Who are you? I've never seen you before. Are you from our factory?"
Zhang Lei retorted without hesitation, "Whether I work for the factory or not is none of your business! You're just being nosy." Seeing the tense atmosphere, Ye Shuqi quickly pulled Zhang Lei aside, "Honey, let's not stoop to their level. Let's go find Qiu Nan first."
The commotion startled Ding Qiunan inside, who quickly came out and scolded, "What's going on? What's all the noise about?" When the others saw Ding Qiunan, they quickly tried to flatter her, "Dr. Ding, it's not us arguing, it's these two deliberately cutting in line." The others also joined in the commotion, blaming Zhang Lei and Ye Shuqi.
Ding Qiunan glanced at Zhang Lei and Ye Shuqi, walked straight over and took Ye Shuqi's arm, saying to the crowd, "They are my friends, they came to see me, they don't need to queue." With that, she led the two into the inner room of the infirmary, leaving the people in line looking at each other in bewilderment. The worker who had just criticized Zhang Lei was even more regretful, fearing that Zhang Lei would speak ill of him to Ding Qiunan.
Upon entering the infirmary, Zhang Lei and Ye Shuqi couldn't help but laugh when they saw Ding Qiunan. Ding Qiunan felt a little uncomfortable with their laughter: "You're still laughing?" Ye Shuqi teased, "Qiunan, you're really charming! Everyone in the entire steel mill has been attracted to you."
Ding Qiunan retorted, not to be outdone, "Fine, you're one to talk. If you weren't pregnant, the propaganda department's doors would probably be worn down by them." Hearing the two teasing each other, Zhang Lei said, "Ding Qiunan, you can't go on like this. If they all come to see you, how can you work normally every day? You'll be exhausted."
Ding Qiunan looked helpless: "I can't help it. I'm just here on temporary assignment for training, and I can't refuse. I didn't really want to do this either." Seeing her troubled expression, Zhang Lei smiled and offered a suggestion: "Your infirmary isn't just for you. Why don't you let someone else see patients? Besides, who here is really sick? People with serious illnesses would have gone to big hospitals long ago. Who would come to the infirmary?"
Ding Qiunan thought it made sense, so Zhang Lei leaned close to her ear and whispered an idea. Ding Qiunan nodded after listening and said with a smile, "You're so mean."
Soon, two or three more tables were set up in the infirmary, and Ding Qiunan had three other nurses divide the line of patients into three queues. The people in line were puzzled when they saw three thick-waisted, strong-legged female nurses, each holding an extra-large syringe, standing beside the tables.
Ding Qiunan walked up to the first worker in line, asked a few simple questions, and then said, "You have a sore throat, you have inflammation." The worker quickly tried to appease her, "Dr. Ding, what medicine do I need that will work quickly? Or could you take another look at me? I have other discomforts in my body as well."
Ding Qiunan said irritably, "No need to look, I know what's wrong with you." Then she called to the nurse next to her, "Use the biggest needle on him, give him an injection, and I guarantee it will cure him." The worker looked at the large needle, then at the serious-looking nurse, and waved his hands repeatedly in fright, "No, no, no, I don't want an injection, I don't want one."
Ding Qiunan said coldly, "That's not up to you. Since you've come to the infirmary, you have to listen to me. You can't hide your illness and refuse treatment." As she spoke, she had two other female nurses come forward and directly pressed the worker onto a table to the side, pulled down his pants, and exposed half of his buttocks.
The nurse held up a thick syringe in front of the crowd, and those in line were terrified. Then, a pig-like scream erupted from the worker's mouth, and the people outside scattered in an instant, shouting, "I'm not going! I'm not sick, I'll just have to wait it out!"
Soon, the worker who had been pricked by the needle stood up with a limp. He looked at the three female nurses, full of anger but daring not to retaliate, and could only limp away dejectedly. Everyone in the infirmary burst into laughter at the sight.
Ding Qiunan looked at Zhang Lei and said with a smile, "Your idea is too wicked." Zhang Lei smiled and replied, "You're just too kind. You should be ruthless with these people who are faking illness. They all have so much energy and vitality; they don't look sick at all."
The three nurses standing nearby looked at Zhang Lei with admiration. Their workload had increased significantly in the past two days due to Ding Qiunan's arrival, but now they could finally relax.
It was lunchtime soon, and as soon as the bell rang, Zhang Lei followed Ye Shuqi and Ding Qiunan to the canteen. Looking at the long lines of people getting their food, Zhang Lei thought to himself that it had been a really long time since he had eaten at the factory.
He looked down at the lunchbox in his hand. Luckily, he had a spare in his personal space; otherwise, he would have had to share one with Ye Shuqi, and he definitely wouldn't have had enough to eat.
While queuing, Zhang Lei stood at the back. Seeing Ye Shuqi and Ding Qiunan chatting and laughing in front of him, he hurriedly urged, "Alright, stop chatting. We can talk while we eat. Hurry up and get your food." Ye Shuqi glared at him, then turned to the cook and smiled, saying, "Master, please give me two meat dishes, one vegetable dish, and two steamed buns."
Zhang Lei was secretly delighted. Thankfully, Ye Shuqi hadn't forgotten his instructions. He had been worried she wouldn't eat enough in the cafeteria, so he'd reminded her every day to get plenty of food and money, promising to make up for any shortfall. Ding Qiunan, on the other hand, only got one meat dish and one vegetable dish. When it was Zhang Lei's turn, he immediately said, "Give me three meat dishes and four steamed buns."
The cook glanced at Zhang Lei, but when serving the food, his hands shook like a sieve, sloshing a spoonful of food back and forth until only half a spoonful was left in the lunchbox.
Zhang Lei frowned in surprise and asked, "What's wrong with you? Is your hand hurting? Why are you shaking while serving food?" The waiter immediately frowned and scolded, "What's it to you what happens to my hand? I'm already being nice by serving you food, what are you being so arrogant about?"
Zhang Lei was stunned for a moment by the retort. Just as he was about to say something more, the people behind him urged, "Hurry up, everyone's waiting!" Hearing the urging and seeing the smug look on the waiter's face, Zhang Lei was immediately annoyed, thinking to himself that this was deliberately making things difficult for him. He simply used his personal space to take back all the money and tickets he had just handed over, thinking that if the other party couldn't reconcile the accounts later, they would be in trouble.
Zhang Lei quickly found Ding Qiunan and Ye Shuqi. Looking at the meager amount of food in his lunchbox and then at the portions in their bowls, he became even angrier. These days, it seems like everyone is being treated differently based on who they are served.
Ye Shuqi looked at his lunchbox and said with a smile, "I can't finish this food, so I'll give you some." Zhang Lei waved his hand angrily, "No need, I have enough, you eat more."
Seeing that he was still angry, Ye Shuqi gently advised, "Don't be so angry, boss. Everyone in the cafeteria is like this. The more you argue with them, the less you'll fight next time." Zhang Lei didn't refute. He understood the unspoken rules of the industry, but he rarely came to the cafeteria and was too lazy to bother with it.
